The Hungarian Forint (HUF) is the official currency of Hungary, introduced in 1946 to stabilize the economy after hyperinflation from World War II. Issued by the Hungarian National Bank, the forint is a free-floating currency, with coins and banknotes of various denominations in circulation. Hungary, a European Union member, has not yet adopted the euro, though discussions on potential future adoption continue. The forint is widely used domestically for all transactions, and while Hungary is a popular tourist destination, foreign currencies are generally not accepted.
